COMPRESSIBLITY AND PENETRABILITY OF LATOSSOLO VERMELHO-AMARELO DISTRÓFICO (OXISOL) UNDER VARIED MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND LAND USES Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Neiva Júnior,Eudes; Rocha,Wellington Willian; Pires,Bruno Silva; Farnezi,Múcio Mágno de Melo; Dias Junior,Moacir de Souza; Freitas,Danilo Fernandes Borges de; Silva,Enilson de Barros; Carvalho,Gianniini Alexsandra de Oliveira.
Soil compaction is one of the main degradation causes, provoked by inappropriate agricultural practices that override the limitations of the soil physical properties. Preconsolidation pressure and penetration resistance have proved effective as alternative to assess and identify soil compaction. Based on the interpretation of these physico-mechanical parameters, compaction can be prevented with a better adjusted soil management. This study was performed to generate preconsolidation pressure and penetration resistance models for Latososlo Vermelho-Amarelo distrófico (Oxisol) under various managements and uses; and evaluate which of these would lead to degradation or degradation susceptibility. The study was carried out in Curvelo, MG. Two managements and...

Corn Yield and Foliar Diagnosis Affected by Nitrogen Fertilization and Inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Galindo,Fernando Shintate; Teixeira Filho,Marcelo Carvalho Minhoto; Buzetti,Salatiér; Santini,José Mateus Kondo; Alves,Cleiton José; Nogueira,Lais Meneghini; Ludkiewicz,Mariana Gaioto Ziolkowski; Andreotti,Marcelo; Bellotte,João Leonardo Miranda.
ABSTRACT The biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) process in grasses is caused by diazotrophic bacteria, particularly Azospirillum brasilense. However, studies are lacking on BNF efficiency to define how much mineral nitrogen (N) can be applied to achieve more sustainable high yields. Furthermore, there should be an analysis of whether urea with the urease enzyme inhibitor NBPT is less harmful, benefiting BNF in grasses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of N sources and N rates associated with inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense regarding foliar diagnosis and leaf chlorophyll index (LCI), agronomic efficiency (AE), and corn grain yield in the Cerrado (Brazilian tropical savanna) region. The experiment was conducted in a no-tillage...

Liming in Agricultural Production Models with and Without the Adoption of Crop-Livestock Integration Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Silva,Francisco Carlos Mainardes da; Sachs,Luís Guilherme; and,Inês Cristina Batista Fonseca; Tavares Filho,João.
ABSTRACT Perennial forage crops used in crop-livestock integration (CLI) are able to accumulate large amounts of straw on the soil surface in no-tillage system (NTS). In addition, they can potentially produce large amounts of soluble organic compounds that help improving the efficiency of liming in the subsurface, which favors root growth, thus reducing the risks of loss in yield during dry spells and the harmful effects of “overliming”. The aim of this study was to test the effects of liming on two models of agricultural production, with and without crop-livestock integration, for 2 years. Thus, an experiment was conducted in a Latossolo Vermelho (Oxisol) with a very clayey texture located in an agricultural area under the NTS in Bandeirantes, PR, Brazil....

MODELING OF SOIL LOAD-BEARING CAPACITY AS A FUNCTION OF SOIL MECHANICAL RESISTANCE TO PENETRATION Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Ortigara,Cícero; Moraes,Moacir Tuzzin de; Debiasi,Henrique; Silva,Vanderlei Rodrigues da; Franchini,Julio Cezar; Luz,Felipe Bonini da.
Estimation of soil load-bearing capacity from mathematical models that relate preconsolidation pressure (σp) to mechanical resistance to penetration (PR) and gravimetric soil water content (U) is important for defining strategies to prevent compaction of agricultural soils. Our objective was therefore to model the σp and compression index (CI) according to the PR (with an impact penetrometer in the field and a static penetrometer inserted at a constant rate in the laboratory) and U in a Rhodic Eutrudox. The experiment consisted of six treatments: no-tillage system (NT); NT with chiseling; and NT with additional compaction by combine traffic (passing 4, 8, 10, and 20 times). Soil bulk density, total porosity, PR (in field and laboratory measurements), U,...
